Wattstor were delighted to recently take part in the first Energy Storage Round Table event organised by Solar Media. The focus was on residential storage with participants coming from as far afield as Germany. German companies have some useful experience they can bring to the UK, 30% of all new PV installations in German now have storage, although their market is different as they have have an existing incentives structure.
All those attending agreed that the market in the UK for renewable energy storage is gathering momentum and exciting times are ahead. However, under the current government, there is wide consensus that the chances of there being a storage subsidy are slim. Innovative solutions, such a ‘smart grid’ and the way in which systems are supplied and financed need to be considered. Although with the price of batteries, both lithium and lead acid, predicted to fall considerably over the next 5 years there is light at the end of the tunnel.
